Senior Moment.

I had my first day of college and my last first day of public school today. Although I was dreading it, of course it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. I think the thought of going from total freedom to total institution is kind of heartbreaking. Anyway, my day.

I began by waking up around 3:25 with my arm asleep because I had cut off the circulation in it. Ick. Later I woke up around 6 to shower, eat breakfast, and gulp down some much needed coffee. Then, I began my trek to Oelwein, a town about 20 or so miles away, to arrive at the RAMS Center. I was the first one in my class to arrive, so I took the opportunity to snap a dailybooth picture. Then I recieved the majority of my materials. Since it was the first day we naturally did a lab, making cheese. Our assignment was to watch a little vial of milk for the next day to see when it would curdle. This means that I have a little vial of rotting milk in my car. Ew.

Moving on. Afterwards, I headed back to school and had a bunch of free time, I took this as a chance to read Without You, and do some instant messaging. By the time lunch came around, I walked into the cafe, seeing the gossip seeping out of the previously vacant walls. It was rather horrid. I have an invitation to sit with the garage band/Finnish foreign exchange student tomorrow, which I think I may just take up.

That said, this brings me to another point. I've never really enjoyed the people I've sat with, I just do for no particular reason. I don't agree with a lot of things they say. So this is my year to be me, and not care about the labels attached. An example is in my government class, we were talking about political parties, and I have this feeling that my views are going to be brought out rather quickly in a debate. I consider myself to be a moderate, but I guess when combined I lie on the slightly left, slightly libertarian, side of things. I'm not ashamed of what I stand for, but I also don't want to create any enemies. I guess we'll just see what happens.

After school I came home, did chores, and then went with my friend Kelly to see Despicable Me. It was adorable and filled with subtle nerdfighter-esque jokes. Afterward, we (Kelly and Company) hung out at Dairy Queen just radiating our awesome. Once I got home (It's a 25 minute drive.), I loaded the dishwasher and finalized my ACT sign up. Then I began this blog, which has now concluded. Aloha.

Hogwarts, Panchero's, and Other UI Excitement.

Edit: Sorry for the late posting, the internet failed again last night.

Today, I went to the University of Iowa for a college visit. It was rather nice, but I'm not sure that they have the program that I want. Nevertheless, I had a great time exploring the campus and culture there.

I went to Panchero's because the people I were with didn't wanted to splurge too much, but wanted tex-mex stuff, so my beloved Chipotle was out of the question. After attempting to eat the hugest burrito I'd ever seen in my life, I got a call from my friend Meg, who wanted me to come visit her.

So Meg picked us up, and took us to Trinity Episcopal Church for a special tour. In the Episcopal church, we have some really awesome VBS cirriculums; Narnia, A Wrinkle in Time, Harry Potter, etc. Trinty totally overdid themselves on turning their church into Hogwarts. They had classrooms, a Great Hall, quidditch field, Diagon Alley, even a Room of Requirement! It was amazing. Here are some pictures.

After that, we got an overview of the college, and took a Cambus tour. The worst part of the whole day was getting out of Iowa City, because I had absolutely no idea to navigate it, but after getting onto 380, I was fine. When I got home, there was a pig out. Exciting.

College Visits are Educational.

Hello world. I have been on the road, visiting colleges for the past two days. It has been pretty good, and I'm exhausted. I have a better idea of what I want, and what I'd like to major in, but that's a topic for another day.

I visited four colleges Drake, Grandview, Iowa State, and University of Northern Iowa. I don't want Drake or UNI. Grandview's nice but has only a couple of the classes I want, and the theology professor was one cool guy. I absoultely adore ISU for engineering, which is what I'm seriously thinking about. I got to see a ton of things there; ABC Computer, VRAC, and St. John's Episcopal Church. Also, northern Ames is an island... But this blog is about the things that I learned while on the roadtrip with a distant family member.

1) Cell phones cause cancer, and should only be used in emergencies.
2) Lectures are the best form of teaching, as they utilize the most student interaction.
3) If you don't have a water bottle on you at all times, you will die.
4) CO-ED floors are for people who want to have a lot of sex.
5) All Soroities force you to have sex to get in.
6) The taste of the ice should be blamed only upon the person who put it in.
7) If you know what's best for a mentally-able person, and they don't want it, you should do it anyway.
8) Atmospheres on a college aren't really that important.
9) People with CFS can't hold full time jobs.
10) Obama's only goal is to screw people out of money because he and everyone else has never had a hardship.

...

I only put the "less extreme" things on here. I am hitting that exhaustion point, and sanity is slowly starting to creep back in. Gah.

University of Iowa tomorrow.

Blogs: 5 eeen 1.

So blogger, I think I am here to stay after a crazy week at our county fair without non-failing internet and constant cell phone service. I'm not going to update everything from my time at fair, but am bringing in a few of the highlights for each day.

Thursday: I monitored the barn for 4 hours. It was boring. It consisted of entertaining the animals, watering the animals, raking the alleyway, and cleaning up *messes.* Bleh. I then got my animals ready for the show the next day.

Friday: I had two shows, one for the exotic animals, and another for the goats. Of course, they were both at the same time. So I said my things about my mulefoot piggy, and then sprinted to show my goats. I recieved a blue on my hog, which was fine. It was my fourth time bringing them, and I'd won twice prior. My goat still had a blue ribbon, but I got last place in the class. Meh. Then after my shows, I had to work in the 4H food stand for 3.5 hours. There, I lost most of the respect for fried foods, which I had only .47% anyway. That night, I pretended to be social.

Saturday: I pretended to be social with people I really didn't know well. It was awesome. More expanse about this at a later date. I also watched the kiddie tractor pull. It was fantastic. I think Kelly was there too.

Sunday: On Sunday, it was humid. Ew. I did a lot of fun stuff, like the Ag Olympics. We had several events, which included Potato Sack Races, Wheelbarrow Races, Popcorn Face Masks, and a rope pull. The rope pull was extremely intense, I wish I entered just for it, but I was helping so it was a blast, and I got free ice cream. :D

Today: I went on college visits. w00t. -.-

I have to do something "family-esque" now. Have a lovely night, world.

Cumin Use: Meh. It hasn't changed.

Earrings: Naked. o.o

Corn, Fair, and Dirt.

Hello world,

It is me again. Hannah. The blogger who almost didn't blog today. How are you? Anyway, I only have 56 minutes to write this, so I'd better get kicking.

Today was again, exhausting. I woke up, and found 4 missed calls from a strange number. Apparently, my 10 year old cousin got a cell phone. Yes, I know. Our town has 1000ish people in it at the MAX. Gahh.

Anyway, what I was supposed to be blogging about. We did corn today. That means picking, shucking, cooking, and freezing it. I picked and shucked. Then, I loaded up the truck and headed to the fair to set up things for tomorrow. Also, I should note that I was covered in mud, old clothes, and messed hair during this time. I'm sure the people at the horse show didn't know what to think.

Later, I had to do this singing thing that I agreed to. I sang the Rainbow Connection. I think I started out well, then I just totally fell to pieces. Eh, oh well, at least I did it. More information on this topic will probably not be disclosed. >.<

Tommorow, I have to be up rather early to load goats and hogs. So I'm cutting this blog short. Tomorrow will be filled with more information to provide the 3 of you who read this, and the .03% that of which you care. Goodnight, Blogger.

BEDA? I'd rather be in bed.

HELLO BEDA POST #3!

It is me again, your currently faithful blogger.

Today was a really long day, I am exhausted.

I awoke this morning and finished my 4H paperwork, I finally left the house around noon, and took the 35 minute journey to National (NAY-SHUN-UL), IA, where our fairgrounds are located. When I got there, it was chaos; crazy parents, screaming children, panting pets, sweating judges, and swarming County Council members.

I was one of the County Council members, noted by my hunter green and white shirt. I went through the judging and got eight of my thirteen held back as possible state exhibits. Although none of them made it on, I still received 8 purple ribbons, and 5 blues. My sister, however did make it on with her light manipulation project. (So, technically, I also did since I took the picture displayed on her cover.) There were a few projects that I didn't expect more than a blue ribbon on that recived purples, so, I remained content.

I stayed at the fair 3 hours after judging to help set up the state fair booth, it was rathed exhausting...and it probably didn't help that I forgot to eat today. I got up at 7:30, and had only had a piece of gum by the time it reached 3 o'clock. Luckily, my friend Lauren was given 4 dozen free cookies, so she gave me two cookies. They were tasty.

Moving on to another subject. I was informed tonight that I have been asked to be Shepard for a program called New Beginnings! It's a spiritual retreat weekend dedicated to youth in grades 7-9 sponsored by the Episcopal Church. I'm pretty excited to have been asked, and probably will accept. Accepting means that I will have to dedicate a weekend in both the fall and spring. Which, honestly, is one of the best things I could have asked for.

Tomorrow is another big day, so I'm off to bed. (So. Tired.) Goodnight Blogosphere.

4H Projects, School Scheduling, and Corn.

Eric. The greatest gift the internet ever granted.

Yes world, it is true. What is true? Well...something. -insert mind-blowing fact here-

Now, that that is all said..er, written. I will move on.

TODAY.

Today was filled with many things that kept me quite busy. 4H non-livestock judging is tomorrow and, as usual, I have nothing completely done. This year I'm taking a bunch of pictures, a Grant Wood-inspired sculpture, and some lovely peach chutney. I have yet to finish all of my goal sheets, and simply decided not to finish my electrical project which I never even started in the first place.

I also am happy to report that my school schedule is all fixed. I was sure that it wouldn't be possible, but my senior year is going to rock. I'm taking 7 college classes (for free!) from a local community college because, frankly, I've taken every other academic class offered at my school. So I am taking Pre-Calc, Bioscience, Physics, Intro. to Psychology, Composition I, Public Speaking, and Statistics. In addition to those classes, I will be taking Government, Advanced Guitar, and Independent Spanish. I'm taking a Talented and Gifted Class as well, where I will get high school credit to tackle a giant project. I'm probably going to work on writing and designing curriculum for children's programs at the Wilder Memorial Museum. Things have been going excellently, and it's amazing to see how much the museum has improved since I first started there just over a year ago. However, that is a subject for another day, another blog post.

ANYWAY. Moving onto the subject of corn. -insert better transition here-

Today, I picked 8 five gallon buckets of corn alongside my siblings. This corn was picked in exchange for custom made, at-cost, photo mats for my 4H projects. Then we had nothing but corn for supper. I only had one piece, but somehow I managed to leave exactly one row untouched by the time I got all the way around the cob. It was fairly epic. Now, all that I need is to find some floss.

This concludes my posting for today, for I must go finish my matting and writeups and such, and somehow sleep before tomorrow. It will be a long day.

(On a side note: Eric, how did you think my opening went?)

Let the BEDA Games Commence!

BEDA Post #1.

Here begins a journey. A journey that will be trekked over the course of 31 days. This journey will probably go through some mountains and valleys, through rivers and streams. I'll hit bumps in the road and possibly some dead ends. Nevertheless, this journey is one that I feel I have to make. I'm going to start my senior year in high school, and it seems that so much has changed since freshman year, especially from when I got so sick. I have some of the best friends in the world, but none of them go to school with me, or even live in the same time zone. I hope that this knowledge will keep me motivated and willing to succeed through this last chapter of my public school life. I know that I CAN succeed...I just need to find the right...passion. Maybe I explore into it this August 2010.

Today was kind of a deep post, and it means a lot to me. I'll be writing more things of different varieties in the next 30 posts. So, if you stick around, love them, or hate them, at least you're reading them.
